Full Moon Ghee — Churned Under the Light of Purnima
In the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda, the full moon (Purnima) is considered the most auspicious time for preparing ghee. The lunar energy during Purnima is believed to enhance the Soma — the subtle healing essence — in ghee, making it more potent, nourishing, and spiritually elevating.
At Raghas Dairy, we honour this sacred tradition by churning our Full Moon Ghee exclusively on Purnima nights, following the Vedic lunar calendar. This is not just ghee — it is a living tradition passed down through generations of Tamil Nadu’s pastoral heritage.
Why Full Moon Ghee is Special
- Churned on Purnima Night: Each batch is prepared only during the full moon, when Ayurveda says the moon’s cooling, nourishing energy (Soma Shakti) is at its peak. This is believed to enhance the ghee’s healing properties — improving digestion, calming the mind, and strengthening Ojas (vitality).
- Pure A2 Milk from Tamil Nadu native desi cows: We source milk from native Tamil Nadu desi cows raised on organic pastures. A2 milk contains the A2 beta-casein protein, which is easier to digest and closer to what our ancestors consumed for thousands of years.
- Traditional Bilona Method: Our ghee is made using the time-honoured Bilona process. Fresh A2 milk is set into curd, hand-churned using a wooden churner (Bilona), and the butter is slow-cooked over a gentle flame until it transforms into pure, golden ghee. No shortcuts, no machines — just patience and tradition.
- Limited Batch — Once a Month: Since there is only one full moon each month, our Full Moon Ghee is produced in extremely limited quantities. Each jar is numbered and traceable to the specific Purnima date it was churned on.
- FSSAI Certified & 100% Organic: Our entire process — from cow rearing to ghee production — meets strict food safety standards. We are FSSAI certified and committed to chemical-free, organic practices.
The Ayurvedic Significance of Purnima Ghee
According to Ayurvedic texts, ghee prepared during Purnima absorbs the moon’s Soma energy, which is associated with:
- Enhanced Ojas: The vital essence that governs immunity, radiance, and longevity
- Cooling Properties: Ideal for balancing Pitta dosha and calming inflammation
- Mental Clarity: Supports Satvic (pure) qualities of the mind — peace, focus, and spiritual awareness
- Deep Nourishment: Penetrates the deepest tissues (Dhatus) for holistic rejuvenation
How to Use Full Moon Ghee
- Add a spoonful to warm rice or dal for enhanced flavour and nutrition
- Use as a medium for tempering spices (tadka) in traditional South Indian cooking
- Take one teaspoon on an empty stomach for digestive health
- Mix with warm milk and turmeric for a nourishing bedtime drink
- Use in Ayurvedic rituals, Havan, or as a lamp oil for Puja
